Advancing Modoc

Growing - Training - Retaining

Modoc’s Child Savings Account Program

Did you know that children with a college savings of $1-$499 are 3x more likely to attend college and 4x more likely to graduate?

The Modoc Child Savings Account program makes post- secondary education possible for ALL Modoc graduates!  If your Kindergartener attends SV Elementary or Alturas Elementary, do nothing- your child will receive a $500 account that will grow until they graduate from high school! Tulelake Elementary Kinder-families may OPT-IN using the button below.

Advancing Modoc will deposit $500 into a 529 account for your Kindergartener. This money is available to students once they graduate from a Modoc County high school.

Education Explorer Program

With a generous grant from PacificCorp Foundation, in partnership with Tiny-Mighty-Strong, we worked with 28 future educators to build skills and provide enrichment to roughly 220 Modoc children in the summer of 2024!

Thank you to PacificCorp Foundation for the grant funding that made this program possible!

Special thanks to our many many partners across Modoc County for inviting in explorers, giving hands-on opportunities for learning, and helping them create a professional network in Education! Partners include: Early Head Start, First 5, Public Health’s Jr. Master Gardener program, Modoc County libraries, Modoc Medical Center, Modoc Harvest, and Alturas Elementary Summer School. Growing our own to solve the Childcare and Credentialed Teacher shortage is inspiring and fulfilling!

Youth-led Initiatives

Our youth make up about 25% of our population, yet they can not vote and are rarely invited to share their input about decisions that impact them.  The stability and spirit of any rural town depends on its ability to attract and retain people. In a time when many worry about Modoc’s resiliency, how we involve our young people illustrates our sense of commitment to them and to the future of our county. Youth-led initiatives engage young people and empowers them to take action and get involved.  Belonging is crucial to retention.
